I just finished my diy hangover filter and it has some space in it for media. I am thinking of pot scrubbers but i read that pot scrubbies works best in a wet/dry setup. I have filter mat and ceramic rings in there. I have four options in mind. Lava rocks, ceramic media, filter mat and pot scrubbies. What would be the best among the four in a submerged environment? or if you have a better idea please tell me :) Thank you in advance! :grinno:

I like pond matrix myself..... Though it is a bit expensive. I got 4 liters of if in my fx5. Does a great job and is easily cleaned in tank water.

Small Pumice stone from your local garden supply store is stupid cheap, and after a good rinsing is perfect for bio media.
Turns out, that's what Seachem Matrix is, they just use some acid to wash it. If you're familiar with using acid, you can too.
That said, I've used matrix before, and for a little, it's not too expensive.
Lava rock is great, so is fishing line, PVC shavings, etc.

well im on a tight budget so i cant buy pond matrix right now. I will try the pumice stone idea. If i can't find any what will be the best in a submerged state among the four media i mentioned?

I use lava rocks, $9 for 50lbs. I would use pumice rocks but I can't find them locally

I'd do lava rock. If we're talking cheap, it gets no cheaper. It's also very good at bio filtration, but if I remember right, needs to be replaced every few years.
