Many of us keep our rays with a variety of predators swimming around. Has anyone had the misfortune to lose a newborn pup to a armatus, dorado, wolf or any other large mouth?
I've been very lucky with pups so far. Not that I have super crazy killer fish but still some big bass and arowana and such all never given me any problems. Or other rays as well. I figure if they are super valuable and you want to make sure they are OK take the extra effort to do so. It's worth the sanity.
I almost lost my snow leopard pup to my 9" TATF. I would have never heard the end of it from my wife if i killed such a pricey ray. Thank god he only shredded his disk and he healed completely. IF you really like that pup remove the predator lol.
My Black wolf fish worked over a motoro pup real good a couple years back. Left it with a hole in the top of it's disc and half a tail. I have only lost one pup and that was just the recent leo/pearlxpearl male and that was the adult rays working him over a little too much and he died within 24hrs. I would be more concerned with adult rays then anything else.
