Kills me to even say this but my pair is not looking too hot this week. Not sure what im doing wrong but each of my coral cats has one bloody eye a piece. Started with the fem. And i thought she may have scratched it on a rock or something but it cant be concidence each shark has it now. The male is still eating but they are clearly in distress and in need of some kind of attention. Any help or info is much appreciated. Pics are dark i appologise, u can still make out the black/bloody eyes tho. Tankmates include 2 big eye soldier fish and a striped squirrel 4-5", hermits and a chocolate star. Does anyone think the squirrels could have harmed them both or is this situation due to water quality, lighting, food/vitimens, iodine deficency? Again any help is appreciated, ive had these guys for about 2 yrs now with no issues. Only thing ive changed is the addition of the squirrels 3-4 months ago.

Best i can get with my lighting...during sunlight hours from a window you can see the dark eye is actually bloody.

Only other thing i can think of that ive changed in the past 2 yrs is their light fixture....im using a 3' fixture for a 10' tank with actinic bulbs for the past 8-10months. Just came across some notes on other forums stating too much actinic lighting can cause permenant eye damage :(....smh....where do i go from here other than pulling the light fixture which ive already done? whats appropriate lighting for nocturnal animals? I thought i was doing em a favor running what i considered "low lighting"...

It could be one of the tank mates attacking catsharks eyes, I know foor sure triggers will do this to bamboo sharks, If possible seperate from tankmates for a while, and see If this helps.

BTW if not a reef setup I would not use the actinic light bulbs, thats just me.

It's not the lights. Damage like that would not cause blood, and no way it would happen so close together.

I'd give it very good odds your squirrel just got his confidence in his new tank and decided to be mean. I'd separate ASAP.

Thanks for ur advice, i think ur right. The squirrels r just doing to well in the new tank and have put on some substantial size recently so it makes sense... im trying to remove them now.... not an easy task in a 10'x3' 500gal lol....i do have another system i can put them in although id like to cut em up and feed em to the sharks at this point :)

Covered all the bases for now...changed out the actinic bulbs to regs and removed the 3 squirrels to my 120. These little pricks gave me a pretty good run for my money on removal, almost gave up. Had to set traps with 3 30" nets and use another to corral em into place.

Male ate again tonight, fingers crossed they both make a full recovery eventually. This is the female pictured above :( .... only one eye is like this but thats one too many. Its looking exceptionally bad this evening. Anyone know of any meds or vits that can help aid in the healing process or is it too late for her eye?
