Just an update on my histrix rays. I have indroduced a 20 cm / 8 inch male to a 36 cm / 14 inch female couple of weeks ago.
I keep them in a 800 liter / 211 gallon with some geophagus and a B. juruense.

They seem to get along fine, and the male is showing some moderate interest in her now. Excited to see how this turn out :)
They look absolutely excellent together :D

Yes Ade, its been a favourite of mine for a very longtime.

Never get bored of seeing this Hystrix girl, looks like she has found a lover worthy of her.

Nice update Proximus.

Good luck, hope they breed for you. The female is the nicest hystrix I've seen.

I have to agree with you on that Ade, Mike's are very well marked, I have some very well marked Hystrix also, but this female that belongs to Proximus is not only the best specimen of Hystrix on this forum I would say one of the most beautiful Stingrays to grace it.

She`s a real beauty. Male is also coming along fine.
They are mainly eating a home made mix with whole freshwater herring, lots of spirulina, some mussels, etc. I like to think that the high amount of spirulina that i am using helps promote these wonderful patterns - to a certain degree :) But of course genetics play a big role.

Touche! Don't think I've seen better hystrix between yourself and proximus

It`s a type of microalgae that is packed with micro and macro nutrients. I don`t remember everything i have read about it, but it`s considered to be a so called "superfood".

The amount i use varies a lot. I add maby 25-50 grams for about 1 - 2 kilos of Food at max. I consider this to be a "high amount" when i make Food for carnivores.
