I have a Monstera I recently acquired that I am planning to use to help remove Nitrates from my Oscar tank.
I'm not entirely clear though exactly as how to proceed with it.

For my Piranha tank I have a pothos that I simply submerged part of a cutting in, allowing it to sprout aquatic roots on its own.
Now for the Monstera the question I have is, can I feed the aerial roots of the plant into the aquarium, or should I instead be removing the soil and submerging the plants own roots directly?

I always remove plant soil and wash plants before introducing them to my tanks. I'd suggest looking for a hanging basket (hydroponics basket with lip) that will hold an amount of media (clay balls, gravel, volcanic rock) similar to the size pot it has now.

As far as how deep the plant will sit in the tank, will depend on the medias ability to wick water.
