Picked this up for my GF today because she has been begging me for one for 3 years. I finally have a tank to house one for a little while and hopefully by the time he/she outgrows it I will be in a new home ( with a basement) making a indoor pond. He or She is currently around 2" and living in a 120, then moving to a 150, then 450 gallon. If my plans of a pond fall through I know multiple people who can properly house it, so please don't start the " you're going to need a bigger tank" BS. I will keep track of its growth, who it eats, and if I can train it to hand feed on this thread. Anyone who has any experience ( which I'm sure someone on here does) please feel free to comment about your experiences and any tricks you have with these guys. Thanks. With a 450 you should be able to house it for a couple years. What's the footprint?

6x4x30" I feel like about 2 years he will be ok. And the " who he eats" part lol I'm just guessing he will be the only one in the 450 in the end

Man I wish I could a redtail again. We had a 9ft 270 we started our tiny cat. 10 months old it hit 19" and by two years old we were about 35" and solid. Youll.love feeding the guy until its swollen. The only advice I have is to watch out for glass heaters in the tank and sit back and.enjoy. We traded our cat with a local who had a dug out pound in his backyard. Best of luck

Your GF's got an excellent, expensive taste, that's for sure. GL. So much is written about RTCs. Ask more concrete questions if you will.

The advice above is great: never ever have anything (inedible) in their tank that they can even remotely fit in their mouth and swallow. Because they will try sooner or later. When it comes to this aspect, their stupidity is only matched by their beauty.
