Okay, you always want the drains to be double of the pump right? So 2x 1" bulkhead drains in the back of the tank with a Rio Plus 2500 (782 GPH) would work right? There will be 4' of vertical height and maybe a 90 degree elbow. So that comes out to ~529 GPH with head loss. Sounds good?

Sounds good to me. 1" PVC drain should flow about 600gph.
Thanks I just wanted a confirmation. I'm looking for a slow turnover rate. So the drains will be ~1200 GPH, the pump will be ~530 with head loss. Now I just gotta get the guts to drill the tank. The diamond drill bit arrives tmrw. Wish me luck.

600 gph is gravity drains.

Full siphon drains like used in the bean animal/tickler and herbie style overflows will flow wayyyy more.

Wayyy is right. I can cover 1 drain completely and it still doesn't overflow. It can easily handle both pumps and my Python on full blast. 1" drains are underrated IMO. Keep in mind with 3 drains I have plenty of wiggle room if something bad happens. But so far 100% silent and issue free. When I move in December my wife gave me the OK to put it in the living room...that quiet...
