I just made a DIY spray bar and installed it on a Fluval 304. I made the holes 3/32" which may be a tiny bit too big, since the 2' pipe's flow is a little weaker than what I have seen on Youtube videos.

The spray bar has been hooked up for 5 minutes, and all my fish are so much more active than they were with the standard Fluval attachment. Even my Pl*co, which I never see, is out and about.

Are the fish out and about and enjoying themselves, or are they struggling with the current and distressed?

If they were struggling they would be looking for a quiet place to hide. It sounds to me like you got it perfect. If you had used smaller holes it may have created jets that they wouldn't have liked as much.
