Got started on my new 75 gallon african cichlid set up yesterday. Its an aqueon tank, single overflow, 2x4 stand, blue spray painted back, two 10w led flood lights (one not pictured) pool filter sand, and some cobblestone. Decided to just buy new this time and skip craigslist. Price was a little more than I should have paid but i like the piece of mind and clean slate. And its only a 75. No big deal.

The picture was just to get a taste for how it will eventually look. Im very happy with the blue. Still drawing out sump ideas, but it will be very simple and im using a danner mag submersible pump. Also running a drip system. Going to focus on smaller africans like julie's!

Nice start so far. For the sump just keep it simple. You can just drop a 3 or 4 drawer sterilite tower into a tank and use the top drawer or 2 for a micron filter pad (instead of sock) and stuff the rest with whatever bio media you choose (scrubbies, packing peanuts, etc..). Throw a pothos plant next to that with a small light under the stand then your return pump and you have a nice filter :)
