Is this regular Jack dempsey coloration?

This is my 4inch six month old female JD I got from petco and as per the tittle is this a normal color?

Sorry crappy cell phone pics and I kept getting photo bombed by the other fish.

Normal colours, quite bright; might be male.

I think he means that's healthy/good coloration for a JD. I had no idea they got that pretty until my friend started growing one. In the pet store they are relatively bland looking, but that's when they're younger. Their colors seem to come in more as they are.

Yours is a beauty though!

Thanks that makes a little bit more sense. I've been trying to find a male thats about as bright as her so I can breed them.

It's actually funny, but I have seen some really nicely colored baby JDs at Petco lately. Much better looking than some of the LFS's Jds. Go figure

Very nice fish you have there. In the pet stores they're bleached out from stress, poor diet and very light colored or no substrate.
Darker gravel, rocks or sand will bring their colors out more so will a varied diet. Sexing JD's is a bit of a toss up sometimes you will see males with blue beards and females with pointed fins. Sometimes males will have more sparkles and red borders on their dorsal and anal fins. (not always)Those are just characteristics common to the sexes. Both tend towards brighter colors and females have just as much aggression.

She doesnt have pointed fins but the red on them is a bright red.
