I am seriously considering stocking my new 300 with Peacock Bass. Tank is 8'x2'x30" which gives me a good amount of space. My questions are about species, quantity and sourcing. I would like to get more than one species if possible; good idea or bad idea? Also, should I start with 5-7 or what? Lastly, what would be a good source that I can trust will provide quality bass? I can't wait to get all of this up and running!

That could be perfect. Rapps has Cichla Orinocensis ‘Rio Vichada’ @ 2.5-3 inches for 25$ but not wild caught. Is there a big advantage to having wild? at 1.25" would you pick up 7-9? more? less?

You'd be better off with Orinos or Kelberi with a 2' footprint. Kels are the smallest species and Orino gro the slowest

Kels are my favorite and always giving props to imperial tropics. Just look on this site, people Rio Tocantins kels are turning out great. I personally think you can get away with some o's

Also just like in every aspect of life you get what you pay for. $9 PS seem to me hard to believe to be wild. More like farmie hybrids to me. 1" is also very small. They seem to die pretty easily at that size.

Jeff's O's are wild caught. WC usually have better coloring and less deformities. They are better in odd number groups 3,5,7 and so on. Currently I only would buy Cichla from Jeff, you know your getting quality and what it says it is.

Go for Kels, Orinos, and get a few Ocels if you want get 7-8 raise them to 8-10 inches and just keep the better looking ones

Good advice guys. I'll have to look around a bit for a good source but I can't disagree with going with Jeff; like you said, you know what you are going to get.

Hey guys. Any thoughts on JustCichlids.com? I want to get my bass tank up and running and they seem to have good prices. Any feedback on quality? I was hoping for an assortment of species but Rapps only has one species in stock!
