On my 125 I have a FX5 and a Fluval 406 and currently have a eheim 2217 hooked up too. I'm overstocked on cichlids, hints the reason for the added filtration. I was considering getting rid of the 2217 for an AC 110. Reasoning behind this is the cleaning of the 2217 and priming. I spend at least 35 min when I clean the 2217 out. It has driven me nuts having to shake the canister all the way to flipping the canister upside down and holding it to prime it. It has the spray bar attached and it's a low flow set-up. So enlighten me.

Ac110. imo comparing to what you do to your 2217. i would go nuts cleaning it. ac110 would be way less hassle Lol. i had my ac110's for good 3yrs or so.the flow is every strong aswell. there still going strong plus you can add media of your choice or select filter padding's(DIY stuff :D ). Only downside is if power outtage, they just dump(i have low water level)

If you get the DoubleTap valves for the Eheim, cleaning will be a breeze since you don't lose the prime. I can't imagine cleaning my 2262's without them.

I've had my AC500's (now called the AC110) for fifteen years and aside from replacing an impeller and impeller shaft they haven't missed a beat. They are quiet, keep my tanks clean, move alot of water and are a breeze to do maintenance on. Obviously I highly recommend them.

25+ years with AquaClear filters and no problems. Can't beat them.

I agree that eheim 2217 are a pain in the butt. Mine kept giving me problems until one day I could not get it to pull the water into the canister. It's in pieces now in the garage.

you are comparing apples and oranges. AC110 excellent mech filtration, best out there IMHO. Canisters are bio filtration. you run the AC110 with filter floss/sponges it well greatly reduce the needing to clean the canisters as it has twice the turn over. this why they not great bio filters as the water passes through to fast to be fully bio processed. on a side note: more filtration will not reduce nitrate creep, or reduce the need for water changes.

The 2217 is self-priming with the quick disconnect valves as long as the filter is below tank level ??!
