hey guys, im new to this forum. i have an 8 inch oscar and a firemouth living in an 80 gallon tank. im upgrading my filtration so i can get a few more fish. i was thinking either 2 eheim 2217s, or an fx5. would this be enough?

An fx5 should handle that tank no problem, especially if you keep up with tank husbandry. As far as adding more fish: I'm sure the filter could handle it but not the tank; an 80 gallon seems pretty big but with that O in there, I honestly doubt you'll be able to pull off any more tank mates.

two 2217's would be a bad idea. they don't turn over enough water. I hate mine on just a 40Breeder and small fish.
go with the fx5 or fx6.
