Hi All,

I've tried to search, but to no avail.

there's a few threads on ray breeding age/maturity/lifespan, but cant seem to find much on a rays breeding life duration?

So, does anyone know how long male/female rays remain productive?

I ask this as i have a single male ray approx 4yrs old.... will he be fertile for many years to come? or should i start thinking about growing out a backup male?

I know there might not be a definitive answer, but how old are your breeding breeders?

TIA for any info you can provide!

Which kind do you have? Some rays take very long to mature and some mature very quickly
As for breeding age, Im sure he'd easily still be able to breed for another 5 years, probably more.

Awesome news :), thanks guys. Seems like he will still have plenty breeding years ahead of him :).

Rays in question are Motoro/Leo/Mantilla hybrids in all sorts of combinations.

There's a male Marble here in the states that has to be around 15 years old and is still producing pups.......

I know there is a pair of leopoldi in Sweden that is about 20 years old - still producing nice and healthy pups.

As males don't normally become mature until they are 18 months old and females normally over 2 years old

4 years old is still a pup
