just curious anyone else has tanks are not completely level. it seems to be norm around here. my tank is off by a cm or so from far left to far right. i asked someone i trusted about it and he told me not to worry as long as it doesnt chage haha of coarse.

just curious on others experience with it.

Mine is like half an inch difference, which is pretty dodgy I gather; but I'm moving soon so I don't care lol

Depends on the size tank ect. If you have a lopsided 10 gallon the maximum water weight is going to be 85lbs or so......nothing to worry about but if you have 100+ gallons of water with 850+lbs of water weight not being level isn't an option for very long........most tanks are designed to have all that weight equilized and should be as level as possible.......too much pressure on any side can eventually cause cracking and other issues

My 225 gallon was about 1" lower on one side for about 4 years (before I moved the aquarium), and I didn't have any issues with it in that time.

thanks rd. i tried searching for a thread but didnt search "unleveled" lol.

you mention unevenness in cross sections of the tank can be a problem is the unbalance is caused by a crocked stand. what about if the floor is leaning back and to the left or forward to the right? it causes an uneven cross section but does it cause a twist because the floor is not level and not the stand?

Not many floors are completely level. If your fidh room is in a basement the floor is going to go towards a floor drain. My fish room is completely level. I had it poured that way. I have tanks in the house that are a 1/4" or so off. After 60 years there is going to be settling to a foundation. I had a rental house that was so bad if you dropped a pen you had to chase it.

I'm certainly no expert, all I can say is that if there torsional twist across the corners, causing stress on the glass, there is risk of the glass cracking. Usually when that happens it's in a BIG way.

what about on carpet. i keep reading that carpet should eventually level the tank out.. my tank has been sitting on carpet for a about year now and its still just as uneven. which i guess is a good thing.

maybe ill just drain half of it and try to put some shims under one side.
