At my one LFS. They have it labeled as a Gator Gar but I didn't think they looked like this, even when young.

Wish I had the space for one, only time I've ever seen one around me. If they could survive under ice in the winter I might be tempted to get it.

A.spatula ,100% Alligator Gar. Mine make it through the Tennessee winters. Coldest it got here last year was 9° F ambient temperature one night. I have friends that keep 3-4 species outside with Big koi year round. Pretty tough fish. Been around millions of years. That's still pretty dangerous cold though. I wouldn't want to be in it.

There's no way one could survive a PA winter is there? In a pond that it. I'm building a semi large one next April and I'm definitely going to get some longnose for it but if a gator could tolerate local temps that'd be a nice addition, keep those blue herons away :).
