Just got myself to buy a red tail shovel nose cross that is about 2 inches long. I totally understand the monster aquarium he needs and I will end up making a 800 gallon plywood aquarium that he will go in once he grows. He is going in a 30 gallon grow out for now along with 3 tinfoil barbs. Then he will go in a 55 gallon with my Datnoid and my florida gar. Any special things I need to know about them. I'm literally driving home with him in the bag right now. Thanks for the advice....

lol Don't keep anything small enough to be food.. They grow quick... I.E quick enough that both those tanks will not be sufficient in just a few months. My one is coming tomorrow and will be going in a 265g with a footprint of 6.5x30".. I'm expecting that tank to last just 8-10months in which case he'll go into a 5,000 litre Tropical pond of 10ft diameter

Put him right into the 55 and wait a month or two until hes pushing the boundaries of the (assumable) 12" width 55. Not gonna cut it for too long.

What these guys said. 12" won't last long at all so get building that plywood as soon as you can.

Start building now... Mine hit 2' in under 2yrs and he grew slower then our tsn.. X2 on 1k min. Unless your running 10/12 turnover rate filtration will have a hard time keeping up with bioload.
