Dwarf water lettuce. Grows super fast and will cover your surface. Every few weeks I scoop out a few handfuls.

You could also go duckweed. It can literally double in size every few days. But that will take over your surface and get sucked into filters. And once you go it's hard to ever get rid of.

For underwater plants water sprite is hands down the fastest growing least picky plant out there.

Any plant that is growing will be absorbing nutrients and nitrogen from fish waste. The faster a plant grows the more it will filter so plants like anubias and java fern etc will help but they grow so slowly their effect would be negligible. As mentioned surface plants are excellent because of their growth and ease of care

any other terrestrial plants like pothos that i can hang out of the tank. I have tried duckweed before but it was eaten by my cichlids.
