I was told these were Geophagus surenemis (or how ever you spell it) but I need a positive ID. The seller is asking $125 for all 7 of them. They are around 5-8". Is this a good deal?

It looks like a mix of species. Some have midlateral spots and facial markings, some don't. I don't think they're all the same geo. You'd basically be buying a variety pack.

Agreed, looks to be at least three different species there.

I agree it looks likes mix.

I'm curious on the gravel sand comment though. I had a group of 5 Altifrons and for the first 9 months they had sand and the last 3 were a 75% gravel 25% sand mix and that's when they finally bred

I use a mix too but more like 3/4 sand and 1/4 gravel.

They look like Altifrons hybrid.
Interesting. Havent seen a Geophagus hybrid case yet.

Do geophagus need substrate, or would they do fine with bare bottom?

They like to have sandy substrate. That's why they are called Geo-phagus
