After my florida gars death today, I'm looking for another fish to go with a datnoid. Any advice? Btw the tank size is right now 55 gallon but me and my dad are making a 600 gallon plywood tank

I'm curious to see some answers as well. Dats are on my bucket list to keep but I don't know what they do well with.

I have 5 dats of assorted sizes (2 to 10 inchers) in my 180 with uarus, flagtail, a Florida gar, clown loaches, and about 10 earth eaters...no aggression whatsoever

It depends on the size of the datnoid, anything over six inch and I've kept them with bichers peacock bass gar rays arowana clown loaches fire eels ... All fish should be larger than the datnoid... Much larger 6 inch dat 10 inch everything else

I keep mine with geophagus altifrons, tinfoil barbs, and my yellow belly pacu with no issues. I've kept some with silver arowana in the past with no issues as well.

So what size would the fish have to be to go with an adult dat of, say, 15 inches?

Anything too big for the datnoid to eat and vice versa, avoid aggressive species.
