Currently a friend of mine has a silver in his 55g tank. Once it gets bigger he will transfer it to his 125. He now has a 265g in his basement for this fish once it's needed. Will the 265 be a big enough tank for it or will he need another even larger tank.

That all depends on the dimensions

Assuming its a standard 265g its basically a bit taller and a foot longer than 180g. A silver arowana can hit 3' so no it wouldnt be ideal but MANY people keep aros in 180g tanks. Its up to you and your dedication to the fish. Arowana are flexible so having a 3' fish in a 2' wide tabk wouldnt be as bad as if it were say a pacu but ideally a 3' or wider tank would be good for life. Too bad your friend already has the 265g because a marineland 300dd would have been better suited to house an arowana. Also would skip the 125g and just go from 55g to 265g instead of setting up a temp home if both tanks are already available.
