Blue Panaque Pleco - Baryancistrus beggini L239 is mine. I have had >100 plecos in 20+ tanks for many years. I think I've had or have almost every available pleco except a few of the smaller ones (I like them >5"). I've tried L239 several times without luck. None of them have lasted > 6 months. I don't have any trouble growing mangos L47 or GN L177 etc. but L239s just waste away. I'm not looking for advice on how to grow L239 because I'm pretty sure I could by treating it like a princes with special food (I have too may plecos I like better that are easier to take care of). I'm interested if there is a pleco that just doesn't work in your tank(s) with your normal husbandry. This could be useful for people not familiar with plecos to help them avoid some of the more sensitive ones.

I've had some bad luck with L25. Lost a few over the years. They've always gone haywire first when bleep hits the fan with water quality for me. First plec to start heavy breathing and if i don't catch it in time, the first to go belly up. Killed a 7point about a year ago by using hand sanitizer at work and forgetting to wash it off before putting my hands in the tank (only fish that died unbelievably). Just picked up another 7point and now crossing fingers for the future

I haven't been able to keep any gold nugget; L177, L018, L081, or golden vampire L172a. I guess they can't really handle slight water parameter changes, because all of my other Plecos can; L024, L047, L048, L091, L114, L137, L160, L204, L240, L264, L427, L160/L600 Hybrid. But sometimes the gold nuggets I would find dead were in tanks with perfect water parameters, and a consistent water change schedule.
