I've noted on a few occasions that there is quite a wide variation in forms and color patterns evident in this species. One of my female Festae, for example, has a very convex profile to her snout whereas the other female is more concave. Could this be the naturally occuring genetic variations in the species or regional variations.

I've heard that festae with the more rounded and slightly lower mouth/jaw line (the top pictures) are from being pond raised always grazing for food at the bottom. Could also just be part of the genetics there's a real good long thread ab Festae called "Festae quality vs trash" or something along those lines. A LOT of information, facts, opinions & experiences on that thread

Whether they are festae, or any other cichlid, variations in color patterns, and shape are common from location to location, especially where aquatic topography changes.
Note the difference in location variants of Chuco intermedia I have kept.
Chuco intermedia from a few years ago.
