I have had this question asked a dozen of times., so here it is. The flounders were caught in Iquitos, Peru. Google map it, and see how far it is from the ocean, about a 600 miles away from the ocean. These flounders also get up to 12" in the wild, and I've heard of bigger.

Assuming they would eat like regular flounders, so small invertebrates, worms, and small fish would be part of their diet. They come from a relatively neutral ph.
