I just added a second ornatipinnis to my tank. Both are about 5". The initial poly is trying to kill the addition. They are roughing each other up bad. My hospital tank is occupied by juvenile delhezi right now! What should I do?
180g with 12.5" sen, the two 5" ornate that are fighting, a clown loach school that adore the sen and seem to have elected as their leader and a lazy raphael cat that is autonomous.
I broke it up between them with a few raps on the tankside and they are opposite sides now. I had to leave to drop off my gf at a Halloween party. I didnt think to cut off the lights first. The other ornate was added ten days ago. He was being vicious.
I've never had similar sized polys do any lasting damage, especially juveniles. Your tank layout is great, there should be some refuge for the newcomer until the original ornate gets used to the smell of him.
The new addition has a severely frayed pectoral fin. The other pec appears mildly damaged. Its dorsal fin has been frayed in one place (not sure if this is the proper term for a polys upper fin) it also looks stressed. The other looks fine. The tank is planted so rearranging is not necessarily an option without several hours work.
I have more driftwood to add but im afraid of stressing the new poly further. I have a "moonlight" lighting mode i made diy thaf i have engaged at the moment but he is still harrassing the newcomer. I added 30 ghost shrimp when i added the new poly hoping it would be a distraction. I really dont want to lose anyone. One of my 12.5" sens (Tolstoy) jumped ship just before my upgrade and I was devastated.
Edit:
They are from the same lfs. I have not seen this sort of aggression since my cichlid days.
