Seriously though, yes, plants can do wonders for your aquarium. Though unless it's a sump, you'd probably have better luck just suspending them directly in the aquarium, especially with pothos. I have pothos growing out of the lids of two of my aquariums. The pothos on my 225 gallon aquarium have grown to over 20 feet long, over the past 3 years or so (not quite what I would describe as slow growth, but then again, it depends on the situation; my 225 was in a sun room when the pothos did most of their growing, but after moving the aquarium, they didn't seem to grow much anymore, and a lot of the leaves began to die off).
