how big is the tank and how much do the fish get feed.
In my 450 gallon it took 3 days for about 30 vallisneria plants about 8 inches tall. [i have a lot of fish so it might be more like 5 days but they will eat it faster than it will grow and if they miss 1 day of feeding byby vallisneria]

It all depends on how much, and which species of your fish like salad, and intensity of light.
My val grow so fast, that I usually have 8" blades floating along the surface, beyond the 15" vertical plant below the surface.
They get a short period of indirect sunlight, which I believe really promotes growth, but they are also in a tank of Lake Barumbi mbo Tilapines that chew down any browning, or softening leaves.
