Hey Guys,

I need some advice, the large Temensis is upside down on the sand, been there for 3 days. I assume swim bladder.

It all started a week ago when he lost his buoyancy but was still getting about in a drunk fashion, 72 hours ago it escalated and he went belly up. This is not the first instance he's lost his balance for a few days before but never this bad, each time I thought he was on his last legs.

I assumed that it was old age and he was just going to die, 3 days later he's upside down but still fighting so maybe it's just his swim bladder and he can be saved?

My HMA filter clogged up so upon testing the water I discovered that the PH crashed to 5.5-6.0, normally it's 7.5.

I turned the HMA right up and flushed it out, I'll retest later, here is a crappy video cam pic I'll get some better ones later.

How can we bring this beast back?

Epsom salt man. Use Epsom salt. I know it's been used to treat bloating so I'm sure It can aid in a swim bladder issue.

Reduce the water level ton25-50% if possible. Give the Epsom salt as mentioned and get some kanamycin asap!

What does kanamycin do and where would you get it from.
I tried to pack peas in a sardine but he was that bad he couldn't get to me.
The day after he did grab some mussels and prawns etc but they're too small to stuff with peas.
Is Epsom salt any different to normal aquatic salt?

If it's a swim bladder issue then the common causes are blockage, infection, and too much air. The Epsom salt acts like a laxative as well as the peas. The kanamycin kills any infection. Can try any local chains.

If u can find that one then you may use erythromycin, sulfas, etc.

Based on the low pH, your tem most likely got acidosis. Reddening of the fin, gasping, excessive slim and darting. Most die with no change to their color.
Getting the pH back up is all you can do.

PH is back up, I'm not sure how long he was left exposed to it though.
Second day of epsom salt bath today but still no change, heavy breathing, tried to sit him up straight but he can't stay upright.
I don't think this is down to constipation unfortunately.
