This town used to be a hotbed of nice fish shops but most of them slowly shut down over the years and I'm not sure what exactly to blame it on...economy,waning interest,Internet sales,...PetSmart?

I would have to say it's a combination of online sales, not being able to adapt to a big box store moving in on their territory, and the economy. I don't really think it's a matter of people losing interest.

A lfs pays significantly more per Sq ft than online warehouses and more for everything they stock than a big box store so it's difficult for them to compete price wise. Most successful ones have stock or services 5 hat can't be found in a big box store.
