Surely there must be some truth in it but the one in the pic is no way 18inch as stated!

No lie I have seen Jags at the Belle Isle Aquarium in Detroit that were like 25in in a 500 gallon tank but they were also 15 years old they were so big it was like they couldn't swim well they just wobbled in there. Crazy big!

The Jag in the picture is ? at most ? 14 inches. I've seen fish on here bigger than the one in the guy's hand.

How did 20+ inches (as advertised) become 28 inches, in the OP's post ? Talk about a fish story !

I've never seen one much above 16 inches on here - Let's show them. NOTHING less than 15 inches allowed, accurately measured, and photographed, on here please :)

The jag showed in the picture was the non-native record from Florida.

+1

The 28" 15 lb record was (supposedly) out of Lake Managua, Nicaragua, and while possible, I think that would be a fluke, if it happened at all. Who knows? If there actually was a specimen that large collected in the wild it would have been a very old fish, and for certain an anomaly. I don't imagine that there are many jags in the 15 yr old range in the wild.

If you want accurate records, IGFA is the place to look for World Records. The guy below has the record as of now. I'm sure in the home range they are bigger but are mostly caught for food. It's only 16.25 inches and not over 20" as stated on fishing-world records. I have an account on IGFA is anyone needs record information on fish. I have several records with IGFA which is why I have an account.

That makes more sense, 16" is believable, but not 20" for that fish. Thanks for the info!
