I've wanted to try gar fish for a few years now, and had an opportunity to snag one at a great price. Any advice you guys can offer? Also, quick ID of mine while you're here?ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1417112096.785327.jpg

Just give him a nice tank with decent footprint to swim. May need to starve him if he's on live food. Looks like a Florida.

It stands for tropic gar. For some reason I'm seeing different species in ur pic. So I'm hoping someone else can help to confirm the ID especially as tropics are hard to get too.

It's a Florida gar, doesn't have the pattern of a tropical or body structure. And I'm 99% sure it's not a spotted.

What did you try feeding it? It's only been a couple days he probably needs time to settle in

In any fish there will be a period of up and down when they are introduced to a new home. 2 days is not nearly enough time to cause concern. My research into gars, since buying one, says they aren't always a daily eater anyway. Give it a couple weeks, it should get better.
