Hello, this guy came with a tank I recently purchased. He was in with a bunch of African cichlids. I'm guessing he's some sort of synindotis. He's about 7" long. Thanks.

Yes, synodontis but without a good side shot with all fins visible, it is hard for me to be sure if this is a genuine species or a hybrid such as this http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=4397...
The head of yours is that of a decorus, so not this hybrid http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=1121

I'll see if I can get a better picture. He likes to stay under that manzanita. I think he's definitely closer to the first one.
Looks exactly like the hybrid that I have, if so he will grown to 6" very quickly and mine is now almost 3 and is around 9".
Yours is an adult. PCF Cat-eLog entry I linked first does not have a pic of such a mature fish but I'd say that it looks to be that hybrid in the first link. I struggle to match this with any genuine syno species.
