I have a 2 inch green sunfish with a 20 gal tank all to himself. I've read a lot of articles on mixing native fish with cichlids that don't recommend doing so, but I've seen much more stories of success than of failure when experimenting. That being said I am going to get a cichlid "friend" for him, I'm not here to have you talk me out of it. I'm just curious as to the temperments of both fish, green sunfish one of the most aggressive of sunfish but I don't know how that is relatively to cichlids. Is a less aggressive cichlid like a yellow lab a good match? or would I need something like a firemouth?
Also with there only being two fish in there, and the sunfish having spent the past 3 months in a tank by himself. I'm worried that just redecorating isn't going to divert the aggression as much as wanted. Would I NEED to get more fish if I get a cichlid. I am more than willing and able to upgrade my tank size in the future. But for NOW it's a 20. And a 3 I'm gonna get running for quartantine lol.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced!!
