So I'm still trying to figure out lighting for my 150 build...will be in a hood and I wanted to go with 2x 36" finnex monster rays and 2x 36" finnex ray2's...by the time I end up buying those 4 fixtures to cover the whole tank, I am looking at over $500.

Im looking for bright lighting that will make fish colors pop, this will not be a planted tank.

Anything comparable in that price range? obviously it would be great to have only 1 or 2 fixtures compared to 4, as of now I have not seen anything better than the finnex combo i'm looking at.

Have a look at tek lights.I have a 4 foot, 4 bulb T5HO fixture that I suspend over my 180. It has separate cords and switches so you can just run either set of 2 bulbs or all at once. All 4 is truly a lot of light. The system works great on 2 timers, so you can run whatever intensity schedule you prefer.

Mine was just under $400 new.

I just put 3 ocean revive on my 150 and it's super bright, but can be adjusted to whatever you want.

bought 2 of these for my 240, plenty bright even when I only use 2 lamps, and the extended footprint lets me place the lamps quite a bit wider than a 2 lamp fixture would have.
it's under a hood, so why pay for a nice looking fixture?

I place them like this

easy to pick lamps with specific color schemes for whatever colors you hope to enhance.

for some reason the link doesn't want to work when posted...
google 4-Light T5 High Output White Fluorescent High Bay home depot
and it's the first link.

The Finnex Stringrays are pretty nice looking fixtures that put out a nice amount of light. They are not too bad in price either. Out of the different LED's Ive tried I do like the Satellite + the best.

Current Satellite+. They're cheap and work incredibly well.

This... You could probably get away with 2 36 inch or 2 36 and a 48 in the background... buy from kensfishfood.com cheapest prices

Thx for all the replies folks. I was originally looking at the current satellite, but thought it may not be bright enough on a 30" deep tank.

Then I fell in love with the finnex monster ray/ray 2 combo based on how it made fish coloration so brilliant. Can the satellite replicate this?
