I have been doing some research and will be building a tank in the next few months. Going back and forth between designs.

Curious why I don't see many using 5200 when using Acrylic or using a liquid rubber coating.

For me my most cost effective and time saving build includes liquid rubber for the fact that I can build a 8x3 or 6x4 with straight 3/4 ply with no stud framing so even if it flex the liquid rubber is not affected.

Now I have a 6x2 piece of glass already, or if I go the 8' route I will get acrylic.

To seal the window I will use 5200 with almost no excess going to be in the water when filled. I have heard its not fish safe but also heard a few saying they have used it with no I'll affects.

This is what I have come to in a final design. If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.

I was thinking about using it, but I'm not sure I want a permanent bond. So I may go with 3M4200 instead.

The only person who I have seen use it is Wednesday13.. he built a 1400 gallon plywood with pond liner tank and used 3m 5200 to seal the viewing window in!! At first he said he liked it but now I just seen a Thread that he commented on and said he didn't really care for it because it never really cured good and he can scrap it off with his finger nail after a year, On he bright side the tank has been up and running for a year with no leaks!!

As for it being fish safe he has a lot of it in his tank below water so I will say it is safe!! If you look on here for the "3k metal monster" Thread you will see the tank, he built the 1400 gal. in the middle of the 3k thread.

I have used 5200 in previous builds, both to seal acrylic windows to pond liners.

I stopped using it mainly because its to runny for me, so I use PL roof and flashing sealant instead, smells like chocolate, ready to be submersed almost on the spot and doesnt run period. Starting a 550 build after xmas and will be using the PL to seal glass to pond liner.

After taking the stainless bolts out multiple kicks with my foot got it off. Strong enough for me not to hesitate using 5200 again if needed.

5ish years ago when I built the once 330gal, you can see how runny it was, pita to pick off the acrylic.

Which type of PL have u been using? I trusted ur judjement on the 5200 and its been working well for me but as you found, i do not like how it runs. I have a feeling PL is comparable to Gold Label that ive used in the past, im just not positive which kind of PL to buy lol...a couple different types are available since u first talked about using it.

Any difference between these 2 ITHURTZ? Id like to try it on my next build opposed to the 5200 again.

thats what I have used, the s30 is the same thing, I have the s30 currently in the caulk gun. Stuffs thick so I hope you have strong forearms! Iv heard heating the tube in hot water helps squirt it out better if its to thick for you.

Thanks for the quick response ITHURTZ! Much appreciated...the more u talk about the PL the more it reminds me of Gold Label but with a far better price tag, especially the fact you can bearly squeeze it out of the tube/chaulk gun lol...

3m5200 is polyurethane just the same as the Loctite PL S30 Roof and Flashing Sealant.

Here's some comparisons:

3m5200: 7-14 days
PL S30: 7 days

Tensile Strenth:
3m5200: 700 PSI
PL s30: 380-450 psi

Elongation before break:
3m5200: 1350%
PL S30: 900 - 1000%

Price:
3M5200 (color: white): $12.68 at Lowes
PL S30 (color: black) : $5.85 at Home Depot
