Wow... My best guess is high ph and high salinity without being full blown salt? Honestly I'm in your boat though how the heck is this even possible...

most of the fish is saltwater or brackish fish minus the cichild which most likely wont last long

It's a marine tank with a few brackish fish that can easily be converted between fresh and saltwater (scats and monos)
The hybrids (red parrot and flowerhorn) can tolerate a wide range of water conditions.. the hybrids will not still healthy for long. Certain 'freshwater' fish like bullhead catfish can live their entire lives in complete saltwater if they are acclimated correctly.
