Hey guys and gals. I have a 285g polypterus tank. I currently have 2 eheim 2260's running on it, but have enough space under the stand for one more canister. I am wanting to know what you guys think would be a good option for the last spot. I have had my eyes set on a 2262, but want to make sure I get as much filtration on this last one as I can and want to explore all other canister options including ones I may not know about. Thanks in Advance

If you have eye on 2262 why don't you just use that money and upgrade the pumps that's on your 2260 and have enought to build a sump. I have 2 x 2260 (180 gal) and upgraded the pump to the 1262 pump and I liked it. Little larger flow but I then brought a larger tank and made myself a sump and loved it since it was easy to maintain. The extra room you have for the canister do you have enough room for a sump? I just think cleaning canisters are a pain now since I have sump..

I do not have enough room under the tank for a sump only a single canister. So upgrading to a 1262 pump would be the equivalent to having a 2262 with the flow?

Replacing the 1260 pump on a 2260 to a 1262 pump is exactly what a 2262 filter is.

Is the reason for adding another filter or possibly upgrading the pumps on the 2260's just to improve mechanical filtration to catch any debris that is remaining in the tank?

it's really just more of I have more room for filtration so I want to get some more filtration.

I would just add the 2262 and use 5L of Eheim Ehfi Mech on the bottom and 2" thick Poret foam pads in varying pore sizes for the remaining space, finishing with a layer or two of Polyfil brand Traditional Batting for fine particles. This layout works well for my 2260/2262 filters though I also have a lingerie wash bag with about 2 or 3 liters of any brand bio-media.
