Will this stand hold? Top larger than the base.

So I think I'm in the clear, but I just wanna bounce a few ideas off you guys.

I built this stand probably 3 or 4 years ago. It's sturdy as hell, it weighs over 150lbs, all the shelves are screwed in, it has a sturdy bottom with several vertical studs running the span of the stand. the back of it is 3/4 plywood. The sides are 1" pine. I really like it because its short and perfect viewing level from my bed. It's level, the top is even. Needless to say weight isn't an issue. You could park a car on it.

The top is 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood glued and screwed. 48.5" long x 22" wide. I have a 36" long 40 breeder on the top which I want to replace with a 75g.

Heres the issue - the stand it self is about 45" wide and there is a little over an inch overlap for the top of the stand on both sides.

I've seen cheap particle board stands built like this.

Case in point - this cheap piece of junk from petsmart. Just because it's manufactured, doesn't mean its ok.

I may be just paranoid, do you think itll be ok? I have another 3/4 plywood panel cut to the same size I could add on top of all that.

Also thought about painting and screwing some pine 1x4's under the edge on both sides tight against the top.

What do you think

Really sorry to the member who posted this in the for sale section. I wish I could give you credit.

I should just look at this pic every time I have a stand building concern. Haha.

Thanks guys

As long as everything is leveled, you should be good.

I remembered that picture of that tank on cinder blocks in the "for sale" section. I was just like: "Are you freaking kidding me?"

Wondered if someone on this forum actually bought that tank after seeing that photo?

The way I see it thats near the edge of catastrophic failure or the strongest glass aquarium ever built haha.

Amazing really, here we all are so cautious and paranoid about tank placement. .. and then there's this.

Even if that tank was designed to do that.........why would you ever want to set it up like this? Perhaps the price of cinder blocks were really high that year lol
