Quick question about a drip plate placement, I'm going to use plastic canvas and felt as my drip plate. Is there any harm on resting it on top of the pot scrubbies or does it need to be elevated for some reason?

will still do its job, might just not be quite as efficient.

Wouldn't the only thing I lose be bacteria growing on the contact area, ie very very little?

You'll get a better distribution of water streams If the plate is suspended a little bit. You'll get a nice even rain effect if its got a little dead space to fall.

I'm not sure if it effects your overall filtration capacity really, but it definitely looks nicer when it's evenly diffused.
