I got this pretty Jaguar Cichlid for just USD $2.00 from a Chinese fish market. It is about 3 inches long.

Can you tell the sex?

What differences can I see at 6-7 inches for a male Jaguar Cichlid compared to a female?
Best way to sex jags once they get some size to them, IMO, is their bellies. Females have a much more rounded belly most of the time, while the males are more flat. Other things to look for would be more spots on the males and more rounded/less pointy fins on the females. I've found exceptions to all these rules though so venting will always be your best bet to be 100% sure.

My male (belly is not rounded/pointy fins)

Random female (rounded belly/rounded fins)

What a beauty, JRT. Thank you for sharing. What do you feed him?
NLS Thera A and Northfin Cichlid formula, along with some omega 1 freeze dried krill a couple times per week. If yours won't take pellets yet, i'd start training now. If he does, don't get him too spoiled with very much frozen or freeze dried food... stick to a good quality pellet at this point and stay away from feeding live fish.

I call female! We'll see. A bit early to vent 100% and venting is the best way to tell.
