Hey guys, as some of you may know I am setting up a 450 gallon with a 180 gallon sump. And I am having some difficulties figuring out how I'm going to heat this thing. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe 5 300w heaters... that surely won't cut it right? (Never had to heat a tank this big)
Prior to this my biggest tank was 180 gallons.

Being in SoCal, I think you should be fine with that option.
I you still want more power, Finnex makes 800W titanium heaters

I have 2 300 watt heaters on a 540 gallon. All I need. The tank is inside the house.

What temp do you keep your house at? I keep mine at 72*degrese so that may affect the heater... i'm going to insulate the sump with foam I think

I run 4- 300watt heaters and a Ranco temp controller on my 750g with a 180g sump. I live in north jersey. It's about 4* today. It's been up since 2009 with no problems

So it sounds like a 3 pack of eheim jager 300w heaters will work for me ;)

Do you have other tanks in the room? It may be more cost effective to heat the whole room...
Yea but the other tank is steadily 82*
Cost effective dosnt mater. My house has solar panels. Electric bill is never more than $10 or so. So I'm just going to go with some eheim jager heaters. There is a 3 pack on amazon for like $80. That should do it from what I'm hearing

Do yourself (and especially the fish) a favor and hook these heaters up to a controller for extra insurance against over heating
