Building your own aquarium?

I'm sure someone here has built their own aquarium. I am planning on doing this but I was wondering about the thickness of the glass. They say 3/8 of an inch for anything over 50 gallons. I was wondering if that was thick enough for an aquarium of up to 125 gallons? I feel like it should be but the worst thing for me would be for the glass to break and 100 gallons of water pours all over the floor. Not to mention all the fish dying if this happens while I'm not home.
