Need to e an idea of your stock. What do you have/going into the tank? Be specific about sizes.

The tank is 10 ft long so I also have two maxi jet 1200 set to puch water and oxygenate the tank along with 3 fusion 700 air pumps for even more oxygenation.

What's in the Rena for bio media now?

Bioballs will work, but scrubbies has more surface area and are cheaper. Personally, I would use ceramic medias or Matrix.

In any case, you should put the new media into a mesh bag and submerge it in the tank for a few weeks, just to seed it, before ridding the media that's in the Rena right now

X2 bio balls aren't submersible media, ceramic rings would be more efficient.

I was wondering if I can completely dump everything in one of the xps baskets everything and just fill it top to bottom with bio balls or any kind of media would this work well?

Sure, but you'll just need to clean all the crude off of it frequently

And do fluvel fx6s really do a 400g tank or is this over shot?
All depends on the stock/bio-load. 400gal tank with 50 neon tetras....no problem

Are rena xps even good filters? I have heard some good things and some bad things so thats why I ask if its better off just dumped and filled with media
