I've seen lots of set-ups on here with garnet sand as a substrate. Looking on UK supplies here it appears that this is used as a building supply material. I've seen Red garnet too.
I take it this is where to get it from and it's perfectly safe?

Yes, that is safe. What we are buying in the US is sold as sandblasting media.

Thanks for the reply. Seems to be the same here in the UK. Thinking about it I guess most gravels/sands come from building supply merchants

Only supply I can find over here is 20/40 grade-is this ok to use?

That is all I find around me. Just be careful of it getting into filters, specifically an FX5-6. Sand will tear one up.

Robroy, where did you find red garnet sand in UK? I'm based near London and can't find anything! Have you got any pics of your tank with UK supply of red garnet sand. Thank you
