Just got a 2262 and the oring def needs to be lubricated. I have used vegetable oil on my 2217 but wanted to purchase lubricant. The eheim stuff is expensive is it worth it or are there other options

I use vaseline. Don't go crazy with it and it works just fine.
Petroleum jelly supposedly degrades rubber O-rings over time. Silicone lubricant is what you want to use. They should sell it at stores like Home Depot in area that sells drinking water filtration systems

You can buy a small tube of silicone die-electric grease at the hardware store. Somewhere in the electrical section. A $4 tube will last a long time. Or you can buy the same thing calling it food grade silicone grease on Amazon or a place that sells commercial kitchen equipment. Petroleum products will swell the o rings over time. ( I used vaseline for years and never had a problem. I have been doing this since 1970.)

Simply get silicone oil. Every Online aquariumstore has it.
Do not use petroleum based lubricants, they can ruin the rubber ring.
