always going to be hit and miss if your pair breed mate, better to overstock than have 3 fish and 1 getting bullied... add a few smaller hardy cichlids at the same time like salvini or convicts to disperse aggression. where in the uk are you, i would take a bn if its not too far?
I have found that haitiensus don't play well with others, and because they are the only endemic cichlid from their island, this seems to carry over into aquarium life.
If they can't dominate any tankmates into complete submission or death, they end up stressing out and die themselves.
My pair easily commanded a 6 ft tank all to themselves when half grown, but when the male hit 14" he made the tank appear tiny.
