I bought a payara the other day and is about 5-6 inches. I've been reading about them and found that they don't live long? Says they are 6 -12 months and done!??? Anyone have these and heard or dealt with this?

image.jpgI think it's a red tail payara. Fish store called it a saber tooth barracuda

I'm no expert but looks like a scomb. I have a armatus that's I've had at least for 5yrs now. Depending on species, have heard scomb don't last long.

Yes that's a red tail tat. Scombs have a much taller body and a much smaller tail. Scombs do have the reputation of being short lived but if you get them small enough you can keep them for quite a while. I got 3 scombs at 3" and kept them for 3 years until I sold them all.

I think payaras are short lived cause tank size. plus if they freak out and stop eating...freaking headache. Idk if the trauma from spooking jacks them up
