Oscar HITH Treatment

I just inherited a rescue oscar with quite severe HITH. What is the best med to treat it? Metro+? I plan to use a combo of meds, improved diet and water quality to hopefully heal some of it. I'm considering a round of something like prazi pro for anything else it may have sue to its poor shape.

Also, where is the best place to pick up quality oscar pellets in bulk cheaply?

The oscar is adult and believed to be around 3yo. It is now in a 125g with eheim 2217, xp3 and penguin HOB so the current setup is adequate.

I've kept piranhas and sw for years but have never had to deal with HITH, let alone this severe.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh man that poor Oscar! I'm glad you got a hold of him.

I rescued an Oscar a few years ago.. with HITH among other things. Fin rot and what not.

I treated him with melafix because that was all I had on hand. He made a full recovery. I attribute this to doing water changes every other day and keeping the water quality as good as possible.

Melafix is probably not a good med to use, but regardless of what meds you decide to use, pristine water quality is paramount. No oscar will make a speedy recovery without awesome water conditions.

A lot of people seem to think HITH is a death sentence for an oscar. Maybe I just got lucky, but if I can save one, anyone can! Haha

Thanks for your suggestions. Your oscar looks great now.

I just ordered some Ken's Premium Floating Cichlid Pellets 7.5mm and Premium Metronidazole & Garlic Stick pellets. I'm not sure if it will take the medicated pellets but if it doesn't i will just stuff it in some shrimp.

I will probably still get some metro and/or prazi powder but for now hopefully the medicated food can help with some of the HITH. I will also be using vitachem on the non-medicated pellets.
