Ive been messing with pothos for a while now, I just want to make a thread showing all of the ways I've used it.

Here's a 1 quart plastic pitcher with holes drilled in the bottom, the handle fit nicely on the rim of the tank. This was a 29g fry growout with a divider

uploadfromtaptalk1427118546392.jpgdrilled some 1" holes in the plastic strip of a versatop of a 75g.

I've had the best success on my 90g.
I've got a 40b sump with a small 1/2 gallon tray integrated into the lid of the sump. It's fed by a 185gph 9w submersible pump and drains back into the sump by 3 3/4" drains.. 1 would be sufficient, but i was concerned about drains clogging with plant material.

It's growing out of the back of the stand on both sides!

My nitrates stay under 10ppm on this tank between weekly water changes.

I like it. Curious what the nitrates would be without the weekly water changes, I wonder how much the pothos really pulls out

I use pothos in all tanks, but still do minimum 3 X per week water changes (more in summer). I prefer my nitrate levels to be between 2-5 ppm.

the root system on the above plant, reaches almost the entire depth of the tank (2 ft) and 4ft across the length of tank.

It does tend to collect detritus, so I vacuum roots periodically.

Beneficial bacteria also live on the roots, so although I do vac them, I don't do it too thoroughly. They are also great places for fish and fry to hide.

Hard to say for sure, I never bothered to check a before and after. My 90g has had pothos in it since I set it up. Since November its quadrupled in size.

Here's a pic from a few months ago as a comparison.

I don't think its 100% of the pothos. I do fin level waterchanges in the display every week, plus dispose of all of the mechanical media (floss/pads) every week or so also. It stays pretty clean, plus I don't overfeed the fish. I skip a day or two of feeding every week.

I am seeing visible growth every day from the pothos, and it can't do that without some sort of food lol. I suspect it may be consuming the "raw" ammonia before it has the chance to be converted to nitrate? I don't really know

Today i buy my first pothos plant :D
I'm still thinking how i will put it in tank.
I heard that roots are danger for fish. I must DIY something with plastic mesh.
My nitrate lvl is great. But hell.... this plant is looking amazing. :headbang2

I've heard nothing about roots being dangerous. This is news to me.

The roots wont be dangerous to your fish. My silver dollars nibble the roots in my 125g.

The plant itself is dangerous to pets and kids...So you'll wanna be careful with that aspect ;)

pothos need a lot of light ?
No, they'll grow indoors with just ambient light from the room.

They'll grow faster with more light, but too much may be bad for them. Usually just a single CFL or something does the trick
