I find unless the idea is to gain profit from selling fries that letting the fish do their thing is much better then trying to raise them all in isolation in an unnatural factory way. The couple actually get better at breeding; egg lays & fried protection as time goes.
The community tank often simulate the same kind of threats fries would face in a natural environment. I`ve had fries of hemichromis guttatus survive in community tanks but it was one or two out of 500 and their parents we're especially amazing care takers. They grew to adult size and became part of the community.
